This Is the Unusual Way Queen Elizabeth Beats Jet Lag

Queen Elizabeth certainly knows how to travel in style. (This is one of the reasons why international travel is way easier for the Queen.)  No matter where she touches down, it’s an event with an air of prestige seemingly surrounding her at all times. But even her Majesty is mortal and has to endure the requisite tribulations of traversing multiple time zones: jet lag.

But, according to the Independent, the Queen has special means of beating jet lag: she always brings along barley sugar and unspecified homeopathic remedies on her trips. Although the they’re not specified, a simple Google search will yield some homeopathic remedies that claim to be the solution to jet lag.

But what gives with the barley sugar? Dr. Nick Knight, a lifestyle medicine specialist, told the Telegraph about the possible rationale behind one of Queen Elizabeth’s go-to’s.

“What the Queen is doing by having barley sugar is essentially using her body’s sugar metabolic pathways to help adjust her body clock,” Dr. Knight told the Telegraph. “It is a little niche but essentially the same should happen if you were to have your breakfast, lunch, and dinner at times that match your destination before you get there, regardless of whether you’re hungry or not.”

Queen Elizabeth happens to the U.K.’s most traveled monarch of all time (here’s where she’s traveled to the most!), so she’s had some time for trial and error.
