Global Asbestos Awareness Week: Preventing Exposure to this Deadly Carcinogen

asbestos4.jpgDespite the fact that asbestos is a known carcinogen that kills more than 190,000 people every year, it remains legal in almost 70 percent of the world, according to the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO).

What is particularly frustrating about these deaths is that they are 100 percent preventable. Thankfully, prevention is the main goal of Global Asbestos Awareness Week. In fact, as reported in a recent ADAO press release, Global Asbestos Awareness Week is "dedicated to educating people about their asbestos risk and how to manage it in order to prevent asbestos-caused diseases." Simply put, this week is about giving people the knowledge they need to protect themselves and their families from asbestos.

This year's Global Asbestos Awareness Week will focus on three very important factors:

  • Using education and awareness to prevent asbestos exposure
  • Banning the use, mining and manufacturing of asbestos throughout the world
  • Improving enforcement and compliance with asbestos-related laws already on the books

Given the importance of Global Asbestos Awareness Week, our blog will be covering several important asbestos-related topics this week, including posts discussing the use of asbestos in other countries as well as the time limits that apply when bringing legal claims following asbestos exposure.

We encourage you to visit our blog often this week to learn more about these, and other, crucial topics. Reducing exposure to asbestos is a cause that everyone can get behind, especially when you consider how many lives can be saved. The truth is that there is no "safe" level of asbestos exposure.
