Pleural Mesothelioma (occurs in the tissue surrounding the lungs):

- Lumps under the skin on the chest
Peritoneal Mesothelioma (occurs in the abdomen):
- Pain in the abdominal area
- Swelling in the abdominal area
- Lumps in the abdomen

Pericardial Mesothelioma (occurs in the tissue surrounding the heart):
- Difficulty breathing
- Chest pain
As you can see, many of the symptoms listed above are not specific to mesothelioma and often mirror other non-life-threatening medical conditions, which is why mesothelioma is so often hard to detect -- and why many victims are not even diagnosed until they are in later stages of the disease.
In fact, for many victims, their mesothelioma diagnoses occur by accident through routine blood tests and x-rays.
